the best drug movie ever
At first I wasnt quite sure why out of all the drug movies ive seen this is my favorite. Ive watched it about 5-6 times since ive discovered it and just cant get enough. First of all the filming is very raw because its not filmed by a professional film maker. its filmed by some guy that decided to record his friends. All drug documentaries ive seen are similar but in this one Jani really stands out because of his charisma and charm. As an iv drug addict myself I really relate to something in this movie, like on a deep level. One thing i notice, that a non addict probably wouldnt catch on to, is the way the film shows contrast between the lives of the drug fiends and the "normal people" of Finland. These addicts are fighting every day to get the most important thing in the world, which is their fix..while in the mean time the normal people of Finland are shown passing the time by skiing, snowmobiling, and watching reindeer races. These things the normal people are enjoying seem so...
Finnishing is Easier Said than Done
An incredible look into the lives of addicts. Though filmed by an amateur, incredible moments are captured. Whether it be the desolate, cold lows an addict feels or the extreme highs. Reindeerspotting portrays these with precision. Some may feel a kinship with the lead, Jani. This is by design and it works well. Besides the symbolism there are rare/crazy moments captured as well. One minute we watch festivities including reindeer races and the next a young man is falling off a railing after attempting to show off in front of the camera. This is a powerful film and it hurts all the more to learn of the fate of Jani well after the cameras are turned off. Try to watch with an open mind.
Insightful and Poignant
Beautifully crafted film providing insight into the life and minds of Finnish youth deep in the throws of drugs. I highly recommend!
